Got Old Library Weeded X-ray Books
(Posted: Apr. 5th, 2026)

Recently, I purchased both volumes of X-ray Crystallography (X線結晶学), supervised by Isamu Nitta and published by Maruzen, on Yahoo! Auctions at what I consider to be an extremely low price (~ 2800 JPY, including shipping fee).

As you can see, these two volumes were once part of a library's collection and have now entered the second-hand market after being weeded. The books have numerous blacked-out marks and stickers covering the original library information.

On the last page, I even found the due date slip and the library card pocket, which truly feel like relics of a bygone era. It appears that only the first volume has any checkout records—twice in total—with the due dates being May 17th, Showa 48 (1973) and July 4th, Showa 49 (1974).

In fact, there is an identical set of these books in waka-lab as well—my boss's personal copies, of course. While I wouldn't call them extremely rare, they have likely been out of print for many years. My boss managed to get his hands on them somewhere a long time ago, and now, it's my turn to own a set.
